Types of Stakeholders

Stakeholders are persons or groups who:

  • Are directly or indirectly affected by a project – people, wildlife, existing businesses and organisations
  • May have interests in a project - owners, employees
  • Have the ability to influence its outcome – decision makers and their organisations

All stakeholders may have a positive or negative influence on a project

Types of stakeholders include:

  • locally affected communities or individuals and their formal and informal representatives,
  • national or local government authority officers and politicians
  • religious leaders
  • civil society organizations
  • groups with special interests
  • the academic community
  • businesses
