The managing organisation

A key general task for an organisation that owns or manages an asset is to be clear about its responsibilities in relation to the asset. This is not always straightforward and will vary in accordance with the use of the asset, whether the organisation has employees, the types of activities that are provided etc.

A key general requirement is insurance which is not just a good idea but is sometimes compulsory. It is not just relevant to the physical fabric of an asset (e.g. against fire) but also its use. These insurances are in addition to those that may be needed by the organisation running the asset for employees, public liability etc. Using the checklist here about what tasks may be needed to run and manage an asset will help to identify what kinds of insurance cover are necessary.
